SchoolIntroduction

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, originally known as the Department of Chemical Engineering of Ma’anshan Iron and Steel University, was established in 1978. In 1985, it was renamed as the Department of Chemical Engineering of East China Universityof Metallurgy. In 2000, it was renamed as the School of Chemical Engineering and Environment of Anhui University of Technology. In August 2003, it was renamed as the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE) of Anhui University of Technology (AHUT) due to the restructuring of faculties.

The college has 127 faculty and staff, including 120 full-time teachers, 28 professors, 46 associate professors (including senior laboratory teachers), 92 teachers with doctoral degrees,24 doctoral supervisors. Among our faculty members, there are 3 provincial top talents, 2 famous teachers of Anhui province, 3 national or provincial excellent teachers, 2 excellent teachers of Baosteel Education Award, 1 government special allowance, 4 academic and technical leaders or reserve candidates of Anhui province, and 4 university leadercultivation targets.

SCCE consists of 5 teaching units (i.e., Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Applied Chemistry, Department of Polymer Materials and Engineering, Department of Chemical Biology, and Experimental Center) and 2 management departments (i.e., Student Affairs Office and School Office). SCCE offers 5 undergraduate degree programs, namely, Chemical Engineering and Technology (a national first-class major, a national specialty, anda national excellent engineer program), Applied Chemistry (a national first-class major and pilot program of comprehensive reform in Anhui Province), Polymer Materials and Engineering (a pilot program of comprehensive reform in Anhui Province), Chemical Biology, and Pharmaceutical Engineering (a program for international students), as well as 1 doctoral program in Material Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 2 master's programs in Chemical Engineering and Technology and Chemistry, 1 master's program in Material Chemistry and Technology, and 1 professional degree program in Chemical Engineering. The School has 2 key disciplines in Anhui Province, 1 provincial chemistry experimental demonstration center,1 chemical process virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 2 provincial-level key laboratories named as"Clean Transformation and Comprehensive Utilization of Coal" and"Clean Transformation and High Value Utilization of Coal", respectively,, 1 Science and Technology Innovation Team in Anhui Province for "Transformation and Clean Utilization of Coal Resources", and 1 university-level biochemical research center. In 2017, the major of Chemical Engineering and Technology passed the engineering education professional certification of the Ministry of Education. In 2019, the first-level discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology was ranked in the top 50% of the best disciplines in China, and the majors of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Technology were selected as national first-class majors.

In the past 5 years, the School has undertaken 278 scientific research projects, of which 48 (including one key project) were hosted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 5 national key research and development projects (973 sub-projects and 863 topics), 2 international science and technology cooperation projects, 39 provincial and ministerial projects including the Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects, 188 industry-academia-research projects such as Baosteel project, with a funding of more than 70.3 million RMB; 389 SCI/ EI-indexed papers (14 HCP) were published; 142 invention patents were granted; and 7 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards were received. 3 disciplines related to the School, namely Chemistry, Engineering and Material Science, have entered the top 1% of global ESI.

There are more than 1,500 full-time undergraduates and 318 master or doctoral students in theSchool. In the past 3 years, the admission rate of undergraduates to graduate school is 40%, and the employment rate is 98%, which ranks the forefront of the whole university. In the past 40 years, nearly 7000 outstanding students have been trained for our country, and a large number of graduates have grown into famous scholars, experts, and backbone of the industry.
